New food truck’s enticing menu will complement local winery’s servings
A local family is grabbing the keys and hitting the road with its new food truck this weekend. Executive Chef Jason Mahalik, his wife Jodi, and their oldest son, Matthew, are ready to feed crowds.
The Casaculinarian truck will visit at Mountain View Vineyard, Winery & Distillery in Neola on Saturday.
“We’re super excited. For one, I’ll tell you that the place is just gorgeous. We love the rustic feel,” said Jason about going to Mountainview with his “Underground” menu. ”We’re just super excited to get the truck launched.”
Jason spent almost 12 years as the director of operations for Classic Café Management in New Jersey. While there, he opened more than 50 corporate cafés in business buildings. He specializes in making fresh homemade cheeses.
Late last year, Jason decided it was time for a change and a job that would allow him to be closer to his three children in Middle Smithfiled Township. He started a blog, Casaculinarian. The term means “house chef.” The blog inspires parents to keep the family together for dinner time with quick and simple recipes.
The blog grew into a catering company, which held its first event last weekend in Middle Smithfield Township at its reception for an art exhibit by local painters Patricia Griffin and Stephen Washington.
Now, the family is ready to hit the road with their food truck.
The Casaculinarian truck will be open at Mountain View Vineyard, Winery & Distillery on Neola Road in Jackson Township Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. They’ll also be there on Saturday May 28 from noon until 6.
The Mahaliks have prepared a special menu that pairs well with wine. It includes margarita pizza, sliced cheese platters, grilled chicken on panela bread, and cannoli for dessert.
