Dental office moves from Pocono Lake to S-burg

Changes name to Lifetime Dental of Stroudsburg West
Lifetime Dental of Pocono Lake on Feb. 1 relocated to 106 Skinner Hill Road in Stroudsburg, changing its name to Lifetime Dental of Stroudsburg West.
The long-time Pocono Lake dental practice was originally James A. Rinehimer, DDS.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my years practicing dentistry in Pocono Lake and so part of me was disappointed to relocate, but at the same time I’m really happy about what our new location provides,” said Rinehimer. “The new location is more comfortable and more spacious, which I think our patients appreciate. The tight working spaces in our former office worked well for a long time, but we grew and we reached the point where we needed a change and we’re delighted to say we found a great space.”
While there is a new name and a new location, the phone number for Lifetime Dental of Stroudsburg West remains the same as the Pocono Lake office, 570-646-9444.
“Patients see the same faces, we’re just in a different location,” said Rinehimer. “I think our patients like the new office and our team is really beginning to make the space our own.”

Haley passes insuror’s farm certification
Sandy E. Haley has passed the Nationwide Basic Farm Certification two-day course which was held in Wilkes-Barre. This will allow her to expand on her existing expertise of writing personal and commercial lines of business.

Newfoundland man named to McCann School post
The McCann School of Business & Technology Wilkes-Barre campus has hired Michael Nazario of Newfoundland as an admissions representative. In this role, Nazario is responsible for meeting with potential students, addressing enrollment questions and giving campus tours.

D’Oro joins Honesdale Surgical Associates
Wayne Memorial Community Health Center Board Certified General Surgeon Louis C. D’Oro, MD, FACS has joined Honesdale Surgical Associates. Skytop Lodge converts library space into ‘Library Lounge’
Skytop Lodge has renovated its former library space and turned it into the SkyTop “Library Lounge.”
The Library Lounge, which had a grand opening this month, features a true oak bar with a 15-person capacity, a fireplace, walls lined with historical photos of the property and pictures of previous guests and also features photographs by local photographers.
This year marks the resort’s 87th birthday. Skytop Lodge General Manager Jeff Rudder said updating the property while keeping its historical charm was important to the project. “The Library Lounge is a warm and inviting place for guests to enjoy a drink and take in the ambiance Skytop has to offer,” said Rudder.
All 192 guest rooms were refreshed last summer during a $3.7 million makeover.

Price Chopper ranked fifth nationally in trailer graphics
Price Chopper and Market 32’s freight recently placed fifth nationwide in the Successful Concept category in Commercial Carrier Journal’s annual “Flashiest Fleets” contest. The series of trailer graphics features colorful close-up images of fresh fruits and vegetables with the tag line, “The Farm Just Got Closer.”

American CPA group study shows mixed results

Consumer satisfaction’s latest index marked by minute increase
Spurred by significant reductions in inflation and loan delinquencies, the 2015 fourth quarter PFSi (Personal Financial Satisfaction Index) released recently by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) shows that Americans personal financial satisfaction has increased substantially from a year ago.
The index registered 15.9 in the fourth quarter, an almost 134 percent increase from the 2014 fourth quarter level of 6.8. However, there was only a 0.1 increase in the PFSi from the previous quarter, indicating the momentum of increased personal financial satisfaction has slowed.
The PFSi is calculated as the difference between the Personal Financial Pleasure Index and the Personal Financial Pain Index. The slight gain from the prior quarter was due to a 0.8 decline in the Pleasure index offset by a 0.9 point decline in the Pain index.
The pain index is at a level of 43.5, which is 19.1 percent lower than a year ago. This is led by a 68 percent decline in the inflation component from the previous year – the largest change in the period for any component of the pain or pleasure index. Inflation began to fall in mid-2014, and has been extremely low for all of 2015. The drastic decline in oil prices has been a major factor in low inflation rates.
“With the Federal reserve increasing its rate by 25 basis points in the fourth quarter of 2015, inflation will continue to be a focus for the central bank,” said Jimmy J. Williams, CPA/PFS, a member of AICPA’s National Accreditation Commission. “Consumers should watch oil price fluctuations, as that has a strong impact on inflation and could become an important consideration in the decision to continue raising rates in 2016.”
A 23 percent reduction in loan delinquencies from the previous year, as well as a 15 percent decrease in underemployment also helped drive down the Pain Index.
The Personal Financial Pleasure index registered 59.4, 2 percent lower than a year ago. The decline from the prior year was driven by 17 percent drop in the CPA Outlook Index and a 10 percent drop in the PFS 750 Market Index, with both of these components showing volatility over the past year. These declines were partially offset by 11 percent gains in both home equity and job openings.
“Job openings in most sectors were stable and achieved some growth, with notable exceptions in the extractive and drilling industries,” said Williams. “In addition, there has been increasing stability in the housing markets nation-wide for the most part, which has helped drive up prices.”
The U.S. housing market as a whole made considerable progress in 2015, as the volatile bounce off the bottom experienced from 2012 through 2014 gave way to a more stable environment. Specifically, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Boston currently have historically high valuations, while Las Vegas, Chicago, and Atlanta still have problems stemming from significant proportions of properties with underwater mortgages.
The CPA Outlook Index decreased in the fourth quarter of 2015 based on declines in the index components related to the U.S. economy, organizational optimism and expansion, and revenue and profit expectations. The CPA Outlook Index found CPAs who serves as CEOs and CFOs have sharply reined in expectations for profit and revenue in 2016, with anticipated growth for those two key performance indicators at their lowest level since the end of 2012.

Geer named local vineyard’s assistant winemaker
Mountain View Vineyard and Winery in Jackson Township continues to expand its staff as it prepares to expand into a new winemaking facility and event center later this year as it recently hired chemist Leslie Geer to serve as assistant winemaker. She will work with owner Randy Rice.
Geer will manage day-to-day activities related to wine production and management, tracking, laboratory analyses and transferring the current winemaking operations to the new facility.
She had an impressive 30-year career as a research chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. She has degrees in biochemistry and biology from East Stroudsburg University and Wine Foundation Certification from The Wine School of Philadelphia. Adams named to Norwood, Wayne Bank boards

Wayne County resident is W. Wayne schools superintendent
Wayne County resident Joseph W. Adams has been named to the Boards of Directors of Norwood Financial Corp and its subsidiary, Wayne Bank.
Adams is currently serving as the Superintendent of Schools for the Western Wayne School District. His previous experience includes an executive management position at a local financial institution, a financial advisor position with Morgan Stanley and business manager of the Wallenpaupack School District in Hawley. Adams received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Scranton. His community involvement includes current or former board positions on the Wayne County Family Center, the Human Resources Center, Palmyra Township Planning Commission, Delaware Highlands Conservancy, Chamber of Commerce and various youth sports organizations.
Adams will serve with the class of directors whose terms expire at the 2017 annual meeting. He will serve on the Trust Committee and as a rotating member of the Directors’ Loan Committee of Wayne Bank.
Wayne Bank is a subsidiary of Norwood Financial Corp., Member FDIC, and is located in Honesdale. The bank has 15 Community Offices in Wayne, Pike, Monroe and Lackawanna counties. The stock trades on the NASDAQ Global Market under the symbol – NWFL.

Skolnick named VP of sales, marketing at MegaPhase
Paul Skolnick has joined MegaPhase as vice president of sales and marketing for the Stroudsburg-based designer and manufacturer of RF and microwave interconnection and signal processing products.
Skolnick worked for the last three decades in sales engineering, sales management and business development for RF and Microwave signal processing components and subsystems for applications in satellite, terrestrial and wireless communications, and electronic warfare. As director of business development for Crane Aerospace and Electronics Microwave Solutions, he led a team of technical sales staff in selling components and subsystems.
Skolnick earned his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Lehigh University.
As telecom and global security systems demand more bandwidth, the performance of cables, connectors, and signal processing components increase in complexity.

Vigon named one of best 100 places to work in PA
Vigon International, an East Stroudsburg-based manufacturer of fragrances and flavors, has been named among the 100 best places to work in Pennsylvania.
Vigon is among 74 small-to-medium sized companies to make the 2015 list compiled by Team Pennsylvania, in conjunction with state Department of Conservation and Economic Development.
The rankings are compiled through surveys sent to employers and employees of hundreds of companies. The companies are scored on workplace practices and employee opinions of their employer.
Vigon employs more than 65 people in a 105-square-foot facility. The company develops fragrances and flavors for a large number of product manufacturers.

Blue Mountain to host job fair
Blue Mountain will host their annual Winter Job Fair to fill seasonal positions for the coming winter season on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Blue Mountain Resort’s Summit Lodge.

Tobyhanna Army Depot names new repairs, upgrades chief

Tobyhanna resident Anthony Brandi has been named chief of the depot’s Mixed Model Moving Line (M3L) Branch. .
He supervises personnel who perform overhaul, repairs and upgrades on more than 200 Humvee– mounted shelter systems for Defense Department organizations annually.
Prior to his current position, Brandi was a section chief in M3L Reintegration. He began his depot career in December 2007.
Brandi served as an active-duty Soldier for four years and 16 years in the Army National Guard. During his career he was assigned to units in Texas, South Korea, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He deployed to Southwest Asia during operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. After enlisting in the Army, he was trained as a multi-channel transmission system operator/maintainer. Brandi assumed leadership roles of increasing responsibility during his tenure, completing his 20-year term of service as the senior operations noncommissioned officer in charge of communications security, frequency management and communications for security forces.
His awards and decorations include the Iraqi Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, Army Commendation with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement medal with a silver oak leaf cluster, Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon with two oak leaf clusters, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Korean Defense Service Medal.
Brandi is a graduate of Pocono Mountain High School.

The Dime Bank marks its 110th anniversary
The Dime Bank, based in Honesdale, will host a week-long open house celebration from Dec. 14 through 19 during business hours.

In 1905, a diverse group of people had a common vision to create a banking alternative for area residents. The Honesdale Dime Bank received its authority in the form of a Charter from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to begin operations on Dec. 16, 1905, and opened its doors on Jan. 2, 1906.

Pinnacle Health to unite with Wayne Memorial Health Centers
“We’ll have a new name, but our patients will have the same doctors and high-quality care they’ve come to know,” says Pinnacle Office Manager Gail Peterson. As of the end of December, Michael Peterson, DO and Charles Aronica, DO, will officially merge their practice, currently Pinnacle Health Partners, with Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers. The new name will be Pinnacle Family Health Center. The practice will continue to be limited to adult medicine.

Ben Franklin president, CEO gets regional honor

R. Chadwick Paul to be enshrined in Lehigh Valley Business HOF
R. Chadwick Paul Jr., president and Chief Executive Officer of the Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania, will be inducted into the 2015 Lehigh Valley Business Hall of Fame.

He and fellow 2015 Hall of Fame honorees Mike Albarell of Albarell Electric Inc. and Mike Caruso of National Penn Insurance will be recognized on Dec. 8 at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks, Bethlehem.

Paul is a consummate entrepreneur who understands the dynamics of developing new ventures, looks to share that knowledge to help others. He has been a key player in catalyzing the Lehigh Valley economy’s transition from a focus on heavy manufacturing to technology-based sectors. He has encouraged and supported entrepreneurship in young people through Junior Achievement and Lehigh University and has played a pivotal role in a number of community organizations that enrich the regional economy as well as our quality of life.

Paul founded Chadwick Telephone (now Convergent) in 1976 while still in graduate school, and served as its president and CEO through 1999 when the company was merged with Executone of Pennsylvania. While building the company from a start-up to a significant multi-state corporation, Paul also founded and led allied companies including Chadwick Telecommunications Corporation (now XO Communications) and the Business Digest of the Lehigh Valley.

Since 2002, Paul has served as president and CEO of the Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania. He led the 2007 renovation and opening of Ben Franklin TechVentures, an award-winning incubator/post-incubator facility located on Lehigh University’s campus that tremendously expanded Ben Franklin’s available incubator space and provided much-needed wet lab space to early-stage technology companies. Since 1983, the Ben Franklin Business Incubator and TechVentures have graduated 64 successful companies, grossing more than $1.2 billion in annual revenue, and creating more than 6,400 jobs in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Palma joins Executive Council of New York Life Insurance Co.
Pen Argyl resident Joseph A. Palma has been named a member of the 2015 Executive Council of New York Life Insurance Company. Members of the Executive Council are among the most successful of New York Life’s elite sales force of 12,000 licensed agents.

Palma has been a New York Life agent since 2013, and is associated with New York Life’s Northeastern Pennsylvania General Office in Scranton. NEPA Alliance has several federal and state loan programs available for small businesses in Carbon, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Schuylkill and Wayne counties.

These low cost loans offer lower down payments and standard loan term maturities for machinery and equipment, land and building acquisition, construction and renovation.

Poremba becomes board certified lactation consultant
Kara Poremba, BSN, RN, IBCLC, CCE, Healthy Beginnings Plus Coordinator, II, of the Women’s Health Center in Honesdale, has been notified by The International Board of Lactation Consultation Examiners (IBLCE) that she has successfully met all requirements set forth by the credentialing agency and is now an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Poremba provides lactation counseling at the Women’s Health Center on an outpatient basis as well as Wayne Memorial Hospital’s New Beginnings Birthing Suites for new mothers. Baron named principal, Esquire joins law Milford firm

Reynolds named to Dimeco Board of Directors
David D. Reynolds was named to the 10-member Board of Directors of The Dime Bank and Dimeco, Inc. in Honesdale. Reynolds comes to Dimeco with not only a medical background, but with an extensive self-made business background. Early in his career he incorporated his medical training with business acumen as a solo practitioner in Hawley. Currently practicing in his chosen field, Reynolds runs three businesses in Honesdale. He is the president and CEO of Northeastern Gastroenterology Associates as well as the medical director, president, and CEO of Mountain Laurel Surgical Center and Maple City Anesthesia. Reynolds also has published several articles in his discipline.

He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Gastroenterology Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, Pennsylvania Gastroenterology Society, and an associate member of American College of Physicians. He currently offers outreach programs in medical education.
