Daffodils are blooming; knees are creaking

Enough of the snow. Both my daffodils and my psyche are ready for spring. Too bad my knees aren’t rarin’ to go.

By Saturday afternoon the snow was gone in my yard and both the daffodils and hyacinths were ready to open.

The dahlia bulbs have been ordered and I’ve been spending the last two months on a search for the perfect elliptical to keep my knees limber for gardening.

The older I get, the more expensive gardening becomes. I used to spend hours outside just gardening. I would pull weeds, prune bushes and dig holes without even thinking about a sore muscle.

No more. Now, I go to use the machines at physical therapy three times a week to keep my knees limber and I’m buying ergonomic tools to reduce the strain in the garden.

First was the battery-powered weed digger. Now I’m looking at the home elliptical. I already bought one and took it back because it hurt my knees. Every time I go to the store, I end up in a higher price range than the time before. And I end up frustrated. My husband, who at least can watch sports on the televisions in the store, is less than happy.

Saturday we went to a store known for farm and pet supplies and there I spotted a great bench. It had wheels, storage and a cup holder and it was $30. Problem: I was do focused on the elliptical that I didn’t buy it.

a3blogSo thought I would find one online. I did find some comparable ones, but not that one. Here’s a cute one, minus the cup holder, but you can get it giftwrapped. It’s $26.

And a folding garden kneeler. Has potential but no storage.

Now, here’s a deluxe one by Fiskars. The scissors people. It’s $49 but it has a cushioned seat. Wait, I already have a cushioned seat. That’s part of my problem.

Yes, the season hasn’t even started and already I’m thinking about shortcuts. That’s part of my problem.
