The new $2 million Pike County Library is taking shape as workers welded framing for dormers this week.
The building, on East Harford Street in Milford, was to be done by the end of 2012 but the targeted completion date has been pushed back to March 2013 according to Library Board President Rob Rohner.
At the end of 2011, an excavator discovered an underground tank leaking heating oil on the project land. Both the tank and the contaminated soil were removed, adding added at least $50,000 to the project and a delay while Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection wrote a report on the matter and approved the continuation of construction.
This delayed the ordering of materials, and then the delivery of the materials was delayed, ultimately pushing the completion date into next year.
