The Eastern Pike Regional Police Department received two awards for participation in aggressive driving enforcement activities. The enforcement was conducted July 9 through August 16 on roads throughout Matamoras and Westfall.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded Sergeant David Zegarski and the department certificates of appreciation for continued efforts to curtail aggressive driving on state and local roads.
The aggressive driving enforcement is a part of the Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project and is funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Participating police departments wrote 3,179 aggressive-driving related citations during this year’s enforcement wave. That includes 1,489 speeding citations.
Disobedience of traffic control devices and signs was the second most-common offense, resulting in 585 citations. The extra traffic enforcement also brought about two felony arrests, 31 arrests and 18 drug-related arrests in Pennsylvania.
