This 1942 poster by Pittsburgh artist J. Howard Miller is known today as Rosie the Riveter, but the poster, originally called “we can do it.” was to recruit women to work in factories during WWII. It later became an icon for feminism. The muscle bound arm shows her strength. The cute scarf marks her femininity. Rosie has it all and does it all. Like most women, she is ready to roll up her sleeves and do what needs doing.
