Eastern Pike Regional Police car window broken

Broken window of Eastern Pike Regional Police Department car

The back window of a police car parked at the Eastern Pike Regional Police Department in Matamoras was broken over the weekend.

It was discovered around 10 a.m. Saturday, Police Chief Chad Stewart said.

Police reviewed video of the area, searching for an explanation and discovered that something fell from above and hit the window. Vandalism is not believed to be a cause, Stewart said.

The department has eight squad cars. Four are typically exposed in the parking lot. The other four are either out on patrol or parked in the garage at any given time.

Local residents were alarmed after a rumor was published online that the window had been “shot out with a pellet gun” on the Facebook page “Matamoras-Westfall Observer.”

The Observer often posts stories on its page lifted from the Pocono Record and Times Herald-Record websites. It is unclear who the source was for the story about gun vandalism because the Observer did not cite a source.
