STEELERS SAFTEY POLAMALU COULD BE OUT FOR SIX WEEKS WITH MCL SPRAIN
The heart and soul of the Steelers defense suffered an MCL sprain during the Thursday night opener that could sideline the All-Pro safety for six weeks.
Troy Polamalu, one of the most exciting players in the NFL, had his left leg landed on awkwardly by Tennessee tight end Alge Crumpler.
Coach Mike Tomlin said Polamalu, who had a one-handed interception in the game, could miss the rest of September and into October. Tomlin identified the injury in postgame press conference following the Steelers 13-10 overtime victory over the Titans.
“They are reading the scans and so forth. Those things have a range from three to six (weeks),” Tomlin said. “I’m sure there’s a possibility of it (being worse), but I don’t have any concrete evidence of it.”
MCL sprains have three grades, with a grade 2 sprain normally keeping players who the suffer the injury out four to six weeks.
The Steelers are lucky with the inital diagnosis, because the injury looked pretty serious when Crumpler rolled on Polamalu.
It’s unknown how long he will be out, and the Steelers can only hope it’s a three- to six-week injury.
