PSU players get recognized in a good way

Four Penn State players were named to Athlon Sports’ College Football 2009 preseason All-American teams while seven Nittany Lions were selected to preseason All-Big Ten teams.

Junior linebacker Navorro Bowman and junior running back Evan Royster were named second-team All-Americans, while senior defensive tackle Jared Odrick and junior center Stefen Wisniewski, a guard last year who is moving to center to replace A.Q. Shipley, were named to the third team. All four earned spots on the All-Big Ten first team along with senior quarterback Daryll Clark and senior right tackle Dennis Landolt.

Senior middle linebacker Sean Lee, who missed all of the 2008 season after tearing his ACL last spring, was named to the All-Big Ten second team.

What does all this mean? Nothing really. All of this is based on past performances and in my eyes teams like this are 100 percent overrated. All of the players mentioned are in the right spots with Lee getting snubbed a bit, but that’s what happens when you miss a season. People tend to forget about you, but Lee will take care of that quickly.

I’m surprised punter Jeremy Boone wasn’t at the worst an All-Big Ten second-team pick if not a third-team All-American. The kid can flat out kick and is money when it comes to pinning opposing teams deep in their own territory.
