Givens situation may not be over

Found this nugget out there about Darrell Givens, the highly touted cornerback who announced Thursday that he will not attend Penn State because he did not qualify to get into the school. This report tells me two things. One, Joe Paterno not only likes Givens as a player, but as a person, too. Two, Paterno [...]

CB Givens doesn’t qualify to attend Penn State

The backbone of this blog, Joe Miegoc, just sent me a text message with this update: Cornerback Darrell Givens is not academically qualified to enroll at Penn State this fall and has decided to play his college football elsewhere. Penn State defensive line coach Larry Johnson advised Givens to go to prep school but Givens [...]

Royer is a Lion

Manheim Central High School defensive end Dakota Royer verbally committed to Penn State just minutes ago. Royer, who picked the Nittany Lions over Notre Dame and Pittsburgh, is the 15th player to pledge for PSU’s 2010 recruiting class. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Royer is projected as a weakside defensive end or 3-4 outside linebacker in college. [...]

More trouble

With one Penn State player already off the team after being cited for DUI and another in hot water because of a similar situation, another Nittany Lion is in the news for the wrong reasons. Incoming freshman linebacker Glenn Carson was cited for public drunkenness and underage drinking in connection with an event that occurred [...]

Another DUI

A week after reserve wide receiver James McDonald was kicked off the Penn State football team following a DUI arrest, another Nittany Lion finds himself in the news for the wrong reason. Reserve offensive lineman Ako Poti was charged with DUI less than two weeks ago. I’ve said this over and over with these kids, [...]

Haplea makes the call

New Jersey high school tight end Kevin Haplea verbally committed to Penn State during a press conference Monday morning. Haplea, who chose the Nittany Lions over Florida State, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and West Virginia, is the 14th player to pledge for the Nittany Lions’ 2010 recruiting class. “Pretty much it’s just one thing after another,” [...]

McDonald gone, Lattimore visit moved

Penn State released the following statement concerning redshirt senior wide receiver James McDonald, who was cited for DUI on July 9. “James McDonald, a reserve wide receiver and recent graduate of Penn State’s College of Communications, will not be invited back for his fifth season on the football team.” No surprise there especially since McDonald [...]

Bad news, good news

I always like to get the bad out of the way right away. Penn State reserve wide receiver James McDonald was cited for DUI on July 9 and that could be the end of his career as a Nittany Lion. McDonald, who was suspended from the team during the 2007 season, has only caught seven [...]

Kenney stays home

State College High School wide receiver Alex Kenney decided to stay close to home when he verbally committed to Penn State on Tuesday. Kenney, who chose the Nittany Lions over offers from Illinois, North Carolina and Virginia to name a few, becomes the 13th player and third wide receiver to pledge for PSU’s 2010 recruiting [...]

Bolden in the fold

Michigan high school quarterback Robert Bolden finally ended all the speculation about his college choice when he pledged to Penn State on Friday. Bolden, who chose the Nittany Lions over Louisville and Oregon, is the second quarterback recruited for PSU’s 2010 class. McKees Rock signal caller Paul Jones committed earlier this year, but with only [...]
