Grades against Iowa

No need to sugarcoat things. Penn State just got an old fashion butt whooping from Iowa. Let’s get to it: Quarterbacks — Daryll Clark couldn’t have thrown a better first pass. Unfortunately he didn’t throw many good ones after the 79-yard touchdown to Chaz Powell on Penn State’s first play. Yes, Clark threw three interceptions, [...]

Nittany Lions get No. 18

Four-star defensive end Dominique Easley out of Curtis High School in Staten Island became Penn State’s 18th verbal commitment for its 2010 recruiting class when he verbally pledge during an unofficial visit over the weekend. Easley, who picked the Lions over offers from Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame and Tennessee among others, became the third player [...]

Grades against Temple

Another so-so performance from Penn State in its 31-6 victory over Temple on Saturday. There were some things I liked, but more that I didn’t. Let’s get to it: Quarterbacks — Daryll Clark had a decent day going 16-for-26 for 167 yards and two touchdowns, but someone at his size shouldn’t be getting balls knocked [...]

Penn State gets 17th commitment

Warren (Mich.) Mott defensive end C.J. Olaniyan has committed to Penn State. The announcement came on Wednesday evening, according to BlueWhite Illustrated, giving the Nittany Lions 17 commitments for the class of 2010. Rivals.com ranks Olaniyan as a four-star recruit who’s also rated as the No. 16 weakside defensive end nationally. In high school, the [...]

Lions reel in Zwinak

Penn State received its 16th verbal commitment for its 2009 recruiting class when Frederick, Md., fullback Zack Zwinak made the call following his game Friday. (Look at paragraphs seven and eight.) Zwinak, rated by Rivals.com as the nation’s top fullback prospect, had offers from Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Virginia Tech among others. Here’s [...]

Grades against Syracuse

I know I said I wouldn’t be posting this until Sunday morning, but rain pushed the Pocono Mountain East-Pius X game back to Sunday so I got to watch the Nittany Lions’ 28-7 victory over the Orange on Saturday. Here’s how I saw things: Quarterbacks – Daryll Clark had a pretty good day through the [...]

A look ahead

With a mixed up high school football schedule this weekend (Pocono Mountain East travels to meet Pius X on Saturday afternoon, a game I’ll be covering at 1 p.m.) I wanted to let those who frequent Lions Land to know what I’m planning this weekend. Since I’ll only be able to catch the first half [...]

No. 1 DT Floyd to visit Penn State when it plays Minnesota

Even on Joe Miegoc’s scheduled day off, he still provides the goods. Via text message, Miegoc said that five-star defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd will take his official visit to Penn State when it plays Minnesota on Oct. 17. Rivals.com rates Floyd, a 6-3, 310-pound senior from Philadelphia, as the top defensive tackle in the country [...]

Grades against Akron

It wasn’t Penn State’s finest performance, but it didn’t really need that against an obviously outmatched Akron squad. What I thought I’d do this season was evaluate each position with brief commentary and a grade. We’ll see how that goes for now. Quarterback – Daryll Clark’s numbers were good (29-40-353 and three scores) and true [...]

Another one? Unbelievable!

It’s hard to believe, well maybe not so much because of all that’s gone on the past five or so years, but another Penn State player is in trouble with the law. Redshirt freshman linebacker Michael Zordich, whose father of the same name played for the Nittany Lions and had a long NFL career, was [...]
