New name on the board
With the recent de-commitments by Adrian Coxson and Dominique Easley, a new name has surfaced on Penn State’s recruiting radar.
Brice Schwab, a junior college offensive tackle from California, was a USC verbal up until earlier this week when Pete Carroll left the Trojans for the Seattle Seahawks. Schwab is now looking around and has been in contact with the Nittany Lions. The problem is with 18 commitments, seven of whom have already enrolled at Penn State, there may not be room for Schwab. Here’s hoping there is.
The kid’s film is impressive. Rated a four-star prospect and the 9th best junior college player by Rivals.com, Schwab is a very good athlete. He gets to the second level with ease and blocks well in space. For a player listed at 6-foot-8 and 320 pounds, he plays low and fires out of a stance with good leverage against his opponent. Remember, this isn’t high school film where Schwab would be overwhelming bigger and stronger than his opponent. He sets up well in pass protection and uses his hands effectively to get a good punch.
Will the Lions be able to get him on campus for a visit without promising a scholarship? I’m not sure because there are other schools interested in Schwab that could do that. But with the possibility of Levi Norwood greyshirting it’s possible that a scholarship might be found for Schwab. Remember, Nerraw McCormack and Ako Poti were both JC players who were quite valuable to Penn State this season.
