Back on track to dissect the new TV season, with today’s installment:
I’m officially calling this “DVR Catch Up Day.” I doubt that’s gonna be any network’s slogan for the night though. “Who needs Lipstick Jungle when you’ve got Chuck burning a hole in your DVR! And make sure you catch-up with Fringe when you could be watching Til Death! I know, we don’t know why we renewed it either!”
WATCHING LIVE: Pushing Daisies
DVR-ING, ONLINE WATCHING: Gary Unmarried (8:30)
SKIPPING: New Adventures of Old Christine, Bones, America’s Next Top Model, Knight Rider
WAITING TIL JANUARY: Friday Night Lights (on DirecTV this, rebroadcast on NBC in January)
THE SKINNY: There’s a chance I could actually check out Knight Rider. But it’s about as slim a chance as the models running around Fashion Week in NYC right now. I guess it’s just morbid curiosity. I’ll check out Bones every now and then to see my boyfriend (as my wife calls him) David Boreanaz, but I’m not rearranging my life for it. I probably should have kept closer tabs on Christine, but I’m already two years behind, I’m not catching up now. Because I’m one of the few who still thinks Jay Mohr is funny, I’ll watch Gary for at least a couple weeks. But the return of Pushing Daisies is one of the most pleasant parts of the new season. I’m really looking forward to getting back into the Sorkin-crossed-with-Moonlighting-crossed-with-CSI world of The Pie Marker, Chuck and the rest. The wild card here is FNL. I don’t have DirecTV, so I couldn’t watch it if I wanted to (which I do). But it certainly makes TV a heck of a lot easier on this night. And just so we’re clear, I don’t want to hear one stinking spoiler — not even a hint — about anything going on in Dillon from anyone who has DirecTV. I can’t think of a punishment yet, but I’ll come up with a good one for anyone who even thinks of telling me something like ”Smash lost his scholarship.” You’ll pay. Ohhhhh, will you ever pay.
WATCHING LIVE: Nothing
DVR-ING, ONLINE WATCHING: Maybe Do Not Disturb (9:30)
SKIPPING: Stylista, Deal or No Deal, Criminal Minds, Private Practice, Til Death
THE SKINNY: Arguably the most barren Monday-Thursday spot of the week. At least between 8-10 p.m. I’m giving Do Not Disturb a chance tonight, because I actually liked Carpoolers last year, and Jerry O’Connell deserved better. I couldn’t get excited for anything else on this schedule if I tried.
WATCHING LIVE: Sons of Anarchy.
DVR-ING, ONLINE WATCHING: Nothing.
SKIPPING: CSI: NY, Lipstick Jungle, Dirty Sexy Money
THE SKINNY: I almost wish I would have gotten into DSM last year, but I don’t think my life is any different because I didn’t. As for these other two, thank you to the programming gods who keep Seinfeld reruns on at 10:30. I’m into Sons of Anarchy on FX so far, but I’m a little wary of it. We’ll see how tonight’s episode goes.
