Getting Close to the Deadline for Free Movie Tickets …

Just one more day to enter to win the tickets for the remaining three weeks of the Five Nights of Fright film series at Pocono Community Theater in East Stroudsburg.

free tickets!

free tickets!

We’re a little late on the contest, the series actually started Oct. 3. However, the theater has graciously offered up a pair of tickets to the final three movies in the series each of the next three Sunday nights at 7, culminating with a Halloween show.

Even if you’re not a fan of cheesy, cult-y, gory, old horror movies, it’s a great way to get out and support the PCT, which always is in need of some help. We’ve lost this theater and its mission to bring independent movies to the Poconos too many times in the last few years. We don’t want to see it lost again, so it’s always a good idea to support whatever the guys and gals at the theater are doing.

The only catch is this is a Facebook and Twitter contest only. I’m only accepting entries through messages at the PopRox Facebook page and DMs at the PopRox Twitter page. If you don’t have either page but want to enter, the easiest of the two to sign up on is Twitter. It wouldn’t take you more than five minutes, if that.

We’ll have a winner by noon tomorrow. As soon as I pick the winner, I’ll send out a note on Facebook and Twitter that we’ve got our winner, and you will then be able to stop staring at your cell phone hoping for it to ring like a guy waiting for a girl to call him on a Friday night.

Good luck!

less than jake coming to the sherman in january

Also, the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg just announced that ska band Less Than Jake will be there Jan. 25. Tickets are going on sale Oct. 22 at noon.

I’ve been critical of the Sherman over the years for getting jam bands and … other jam bands. But this year has been much, much more diverse and impressive in both rock shows (311’s first time in the Poconos on Wednesday), pop shows (Ke$ha, sold out, in a couple weeks in conjunction with ESU) and others (Shawn Colvin on Oct. 22).

No reason to think that won’t keep up in the next year, keep it going!

And there is also no such thing as a Jersey thing. Just wanted to make sure everyone knows that. Do you see locals driving in Alabama weaving in and out of lanes like crazy, and when someone questions them they say, “You wouldn’t understand, it’s a Poconos thing.” NO!!! So Jersey people can’t say it’s a Jersey thing. Thanks for clearing that up, Matt and Trey.
