Broken Halos

Found a spare 10 minutes, so why not?

later, angels

ABC has gone ahead and canceled Charlie’s Angels. Wanna do the math? Bad show + bad ratings = canceled. A couple weeks ago when I tried to watch the pilot I could only make it through about half of it before I came woefully close tearing my own eyes out of my head. Sitting around last night, I decided to try it again for the final 10 minutes of the show — and I made it through two minutes. TWO!!! Imagine how many stupid shows you’ve watched all the way through, or how many idiotic things you’ve watched on YouTube that lasted even three minutes. I know I’ve got a list of about a zillion things. But Charlie’s Angels couldn’t make it past the two-minute mark. Kinda tells you where the show is at.

The timing is pretty weird though. Angels had fallen in the ratings three straight weeks — but then it rose in the ratings yesterday. So why would you cancel it then? That decision obviously was made a week or so ago, and someone said, “Just do it next week when the ratings really bottom out, we have nothing else to put there anyway.” Then it actually rose, and someone said, “Screw it, just do it anyway.” Fine way to treat the show that was probably your most high-profile premiere of the new season.

we all know it's coming, right?

This gets Minka Kelly one step closer to the desperation of Playboy/Skinemax though, so instead of bashing ABC, let’s just give the network a hearty handshake and a thank you.

With the networks giving out full-season orders like candy these days, and with some shows not even premiered yet, it looks like there are only three new shows that stand a chance of getting canceled over the next week or so. Odds on next new show to get canceled*:

Prime Suspect (NBC): Even

Pan Am (ABC): 3-2

A Gifted Man (CBS): 5-1

*New fall shows still to premiere: Man Up, Once Upon a Time and Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23 (ABC), Grimm (NBC), Allen Gregory and I Hate My Teenage Daughter (FOX)
