Sorry about the weird posting schedule this week, my bad. No links today, just a couple of public service announcements:
Tomorrow is one of the most fun nights of the year — Thanksgiving Eve. We celebrate by going out to bars and getting poop-faced drunk with friends we haven’t seen for years and family we kinda hoped we wouldn’t see for years. Like I said, cool. Because of that, I’ll do a special Thanksgiving Eve Poconos Weekend Fun Guide tomorrow to try and guide you along everything that’s going on around here. That means you have to help. If you know of any specials going on, any bands playing, or just any cool (public) get-togethers, email them to me BY TONIGHT or send the PopRox Facebook page an invite. I think there are about five invites on there now to mention tomorrow. I’m gonna try and have it up and posted early, but it might not be til about 3.
This whole early Black Friday/Thursday thing is just kinda weird. Who really wants to eat turkey dinner at 3, then get up from the dinner table and go right out to sit in the cold hoping to get a TV for $100 off? I don’t get it. But for the third straight year, I’m gonna help you all get through it. I’ll be touring the Monroe County hot shopping spots starting at about 6 p.m. Thanksgiving night, giving updates on lines inside and out of stores, talking to people and live tweeting the holy hell out of it all. I actually find it kinda fun, it’s one of the few times I get to go out and ask people, “So why are you crazy?” Good times. Anyway, follow along all night, I’ll be tweeting from @poconorecord with the hashtag #poconoshop. It will be line updates, parking lot updates, amusing (to me) observances, all that good stuff. Feel free to send me in tips, updates, whatever you see going on, all night. We can all get through this together. And guess what! I finally got a smartphone last week, so I’ll be putting out pictures too. Contain your excitement, please, about the prospect of seeing a picture of the handwarmers Tommy Hilfiger gave out last year.
Here’s an early idea of where I’ll be talking to shoppers. If you know of anywhere else you think I should be, lemme know:
6 p.m. — Wal-Mart in East Stroudsburg.
6:30 — Best Buy.
7 — Target.
7:30 — The Crossings.
8 — Wal-Mart in Mount Pocono.
8:30 — Back to the Crossings to write a story.
9:30 or 10 — Target to report on lines.
10:30 — Best Buy to report on lines.
11 — Stroud Mall for lines for the midnight opening and lines at Sears, which opens at 8.
Midnight — Go home and leave you freaks to fight it out for whatever Xbox game it is that you want. Just kidding. Kinda.
