stuff ’round the mill

The sports news is full of articles and concerns about PED’s! While initially everyone denies using them the truth appears that once an athlete is accused of using them sooner or later the accusation turns out to be true. The irony may be in the fact that many of the accepted nutritional products used openly 5 or 10 years ago are now on the banned substance list. You once were okay to use them but now you were a cheat for having used them. My REAL concern is that while these supplements improve your performance they may also have some long term health affects that should cause us all to ban them from our diets! Your long term good health is a precious blessing, please don’t mess with it!

Now if you really must use PED’s than I recommend you use mine! I have been dependent on PED’s for many years. I am dependent on ice cream, cup cakes, pies, cannoli’s and cakes! I LOVE “PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DESERTS”! I am very partial to the ones Sue Gehris makes, but in a pinch I can get most any form of pastry down! Unfortunately my waist line shows it, I REALLY got to pick up my mileage!!!

FROM BOB STOUT – The beginning of the Mill Rats

From my ailing recollection, we began the weekend runs from the mill on a regular basis when Steve Mikels, Dave Smith, Dick Talbot, Itzy and I all were training for the 1989 New Jersey Waterfront Marathon. Ed was a DNF, but made a long run out of it. During our gatherings we slowly collected a mass of others who began to show up. I am glad that the tradition continues.

THE MILL TO MILL AND BACK TRAINING RUN:

Following is details of who did the first running of the John Staub training run from American Ribbon Mill in Stroudsburg to the Roseto Mill and back to American Ribbon training run this morning. The road was covered with snow and it was COLD! The following were not about to let the weather dampen their enthusiasm! I was so PROUD of all these folks they didn’t grumble they just chewed the dirt mound (Bangor Mountain) up!

These folks did a little over half way 9.25 miles which was to the tippy top of the dirt mound.

Lisa – Sue – Lynn – Wendy – Daryl – Jim T

These guys did the full run, 17.5 miles round trip. And they did it easily!!!

Ed – John – Jake

In addition as I came to the top of the dirt mound first, in my truck, I saw foot prints in the snow indicating someone had already run to the top and turned back north, down the hill, at the County line. When I got to my mill there were footprints indicating one of the slate belt guys had already come from the south and touched the sign.

READY SET RUN – had a spirited group out training Sunday morning for the RFR also!

Any other results to report?

THIS WEEK & WEEKEND:

FROM TRI POCONO

OUR NEXT TRI POCONO MEETING WILL BE WEDNESDAY, FEB 6 @ 7PM AT UNLIMITED PERSONAL TRAINING. Location: 1240 N. 9th Street, Stroudsburg (across from Gray Chevrolet Cadillac).

The main topic of this meeting will be about everyone’s 2013 race schedule. It is IMPORTANT that you try and attend. I have heard from some members but, we need input from all our athletes. We will have a spreadsheet with a member list and the dates for most of the area races.

You can see what other team members are planning or ask questions about a particular venue if you are undecided. We really need to hear from you about your 2013 season plans! If you cannot attend, PLEASE communicate back to us about your season plans.

The season 2013 season is fast approaching and knowing everyone’s plans will help in the coordination, training, clinics and race day support from the club for the athletes.

As mentioned in an earlier post, we also have the potential for cash awards from one of our sponsors Dox Shots/ASEA. Providing, we have enough dedicated members within the club entered in a race.

Please make every effort to attend!!
