“A man must love a thing very much if he not only practices it without any hope of fame and money, but even practices it without any hope of doing it well.”
G. K. Chesterton

STEAMTOWN
I missed Gina! She is SOOOO pretty! And she runs SO fast! She missed Boston by less than 3 minutes! No matter, she will be WAY under the 3:55 she now needs at the RFR come May in plenty of time to make the Boston 2015 roster!

I had the pleasure of seeing and getting a chance to catch up a bit with Bill Papa this past weekend. Bill is a tug boat captain with a heck of a commute; he’s working on the Gulf Coast. His schedule is screwy; a week on a week off or 2 on and 2 off, a lot of the “on” time he trains on a treadmill on his tug boat and on land when he can get his feet to a shore. The last time I saw Bill in action was the 2009 Boston Marathon. I was on Heartbreak Hill greeting and supporting and taking pictures of PARC members as they climbed this famous hill. As I saw Bill ascending the hill I couldn’t stop watching him to take a picture! The sight of him charging up HB Hill was so motivating, so captivating, I just stood in awe just soaking up the thrill of the moment! Since then Bill’s had several back surgeries and his once fluid motion has stiffened and his close to 3 hour marathon speed appears to be gone. Bill’s love of the marathon is not gone…he performed VERY well Sunday! At times the most heartfelt memories of a marathon are not of our own performances but are instead of memories of comrades, friends who inspire us, friends whom we love dearly! You are an inspiring man Bill Papa! May your hope of doing it well never cease!

Carly and Jim, both mill rats that it turns out never were introduced to each other at the mill, ran very close to each other up in Hartford and STILL haven’t met! Carly now lives in West Hartford! I sent Carly a picture of Jim, here’s her reply:
>OMG!! I saw him!!! I kept thinking, man he looks familiar, but who the heck would I know here in CT besides the small running crew I have met.??!!…amazing!<
