stuff ‘round the mill
Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving. ~ Albert Einstein

Einstein came up with many good metaphors for life! We must keep our balance, we must keep moving…forward not backward!

One of the favorite procedures in cycling for long and fast distances is drafting or slipstreaming. In some events like Ironman competition drafting on the bike is not legal because it gives those behind the leader a BIG advantage. The irony is it is legal to draft in the swim and on the run. In either case those behind the leaders find less resistance and can keep the pace with the leaders much more easily.

When drafting is practiced fairly the leader after absorbing the resistance gets to fall to the back and take advantage of the draft while another moves up and takes on the role of breaking through and moving forward.

The same could be applied to a community. If the community wishes to remain in a union every so often a new someone or perhaps a group of new someone’s must step to the front to do the hard work, to absorb the resistance. The ideal person or group is hopefully not looking to only enhance themselves, or to change the direction, but to absorb the resistance unite the effort so the community can continue growing and move forward.

Or…the community can break back into splinter groups and wander aimlessly…

Marathons are getting very expensive! I believe my first marathon in Atlantic City was $30. I believe my first Boston was $50. This year’s NYC is $295. And as big as entry fees have grown they don’t include the travel and assorted expenses. I don’t know if I could afford to run the 6 to 12 marathons per year I once did!

OMG! That’s it! It’s the cost of marathoning that hurts my knee, not the joy filled miles I cherished every step of! (VERY big smile here!)

Here’s a little proposal:
