stuff ‘round the mill
“Competition brings out the best in products and the worst in people.” – David Sarnoff,

COWABONGA! Football is over for a few months! It happens every year, but it still catches me off guard and unprepared! What fishing video will I watch as I spin, or elliptical, or run on my treadmill!?

Saturday night the NYRR Millrose Games were on TV and they were REALLY exciting and inspiring! The competition is soooo exciting! After watching this event I had a hard time sleeping, I couldn’t wait for Sunday morning to try running!

So I ran what I could Sunday morning and soon it was afternoon and time for some leisurely spinning and now I must decide what am I going to watch on TV while I spin? I’m flipping through the channels and I come across women’s beach volley ball. These women are very athletic and they really give their all to the competition! I found myself thinking if only think that if they could overcome their modesty problems and decrease the size their uniforms their fan base will surely increase dramatically!

Soon the volley ball is finished, now comes the Crossfit Games. Again the show is the women’s division. This is especially interesting to me as several of our local runner girls have switched their fitness programs primarily to crossfit! The competition amongst these women is fierce! They’re athleticism is obvious, their struggling to the point of complete failure had me pumped and working much harder than I planned.

In the end the difference between winners and losers is their level of talent and their level of commitment to training and competition! Some appear to simply refuse to finish second! As far as Mr. Sarnoff’s statement is concerned I disagree with greatly. I feel competition may reveal flaws in some people’s character while in a far greater amount of people competition enhances their character! I believe competition can and does bring the very best out of people! Some of the best competitions in our fitness community are also the most supportive uplifting people I know!
