stuff ‘round the mill
I don’t regret the things I’ve done; I regret the things I didn’t do when I had the chance… author unknown

A fair number of folks are headed to Syracuse NY for a destination half marathon this coming weekend. I wasn’t there and I haven’t heard an account of how and why they chose Syracuse in mid-March. I can imagine a scenario where one may have said “hey let’s do a destination have marathon somewhere in an exotic location!” Probably another said “there’s a new first year half up in Syracuse, let’s so it!”

I’ve been traveling to upstate NY to camp and fish for 62 years, I began when I was 10 years old. I remember the first time I heard about the Syracuse Orange men and later thinking how appropriate the orange shirts the football team was! I suspected the orange color makes it easier to find their players when a lake effect snow storm hit unexpectedly! Back then they seemed to happen every other day.

Anyhow this would not be the destination chosen by a fair weather crowd for mid-late March! These folks have a very KEEN sense of adventure to choose this event at this time of year. With weather patterns as they have been during recent years they could be running at 70 degree temps or in 70 inches of snow! Please keep these hearty folks (not too bright!) in your prayers! Guys, wear your orange shirts, we want y’all to come back!
You folks are my HEROES!!!

I received notice recently that I didn’t get chosen in the NYC Marathon lottery. First sentence reads you didn’t get picked. Second sentence reads BUT you can BUY your way in through one of OUR charities. In a way buying my way in is tempting but at this stage of life I’m saving my money just in case I don’t get chosen in the Heaven Lottery because I will try to buy my way in there!
