The Edwin Krawitz Memorial Race

We all know people have a heart and soul but do events also develop a heart and a soul??? The Edwin Krawitz Memorial Race was GREAT! Itze would have been proud!

One night last week, probably Friday I rode by the Krawitz Homestead about sundown and inside I could see lights on in a room. I could sense and feel Itze, he was there! I imagine was that someone was inside stirring up memories; searching through precious treasures and wishing things could once again be as they were with Bobbi and Itze at home again!

Law Day was my first organized running event. What I learned from Ed Krawitz was that the point of running was to pass every person in front of you and not let ANYBODY pass you! There was little to nothing do with age or gender. The elapsed time was important but the main thrust was this moment and position at the finish line was all that really counted. I LOVE the “new” passion in events to finish and treat everyone with respect for their completing regardless of time or place at the finish line! But I miss the raw “balls to the wall” racing, beat everyone and apologize for nothing from the old days!

At approximately mile 4 a runner passes by the Krawitz Homestead and as I passed by Sunday morning I saw Itze rooting for me as I struggled up the slight grade in front of his home! The smile on his face and the twinkle in his eyes are unmistakable! Itze was there and everything was right with life! And once again, I thanked the Good Lord for His blessing us all with the man and woman He gave us to guide and befriend us in the persons of Bobbi and Edwin Krawitz! Long live the blessed memories of those two amazing people!

We’re gonna lose another amazing Mill Rat, one of our leaders, Marty Alfano a kind and generous man. He’s going to the land of low taxes, Delaware! This really upsets me, Marty is the definition of what a true friend is! And he’s been a friend to us all!

Sooooooo I like to throw out a suggestion to the Mill Rat leadership to have a sort of memorial to Marty! I suggest Marty’s parking place be awarded to the Mill Rat with the fastest “age graded” time in the Pocono Half Marathon this year! In addition the person who receives Marty’s parking spot must promise ALWAYS to back in!

What say y’all? Frank Brown knows the age grading system better than anyone I know I’m sure he’ll handle the math!

More when I get caught up a little, this working for a living is a terrible inconvenience to my play time!
