Pocono Area Running Club

The Pocono Area Running Club still needs volunteers for Water Stop #1 of the Pocono Marathon on May 21. You don’t need to be a member of PARC to help out. We welcome former members, interested runners, family members and anyone who would like to volunteer their time to a worthy cause. Remember, this supports all the marathon and half-marathon runners, whether they are local or from around the world. Ever more importantly, it supports the work of the American Red Cross of the Pocono Mountains, serving Monroe, Pike, Wayne and Carbon counties.

Over 1000 runners pass the water stop in about 10 minutes, so we like to have 15 to 20 volunteers. It’s a fun (and social) way to spend the morning. You get a great view of the race, and you’re finished by 8:15 am.

Prior to the race, we need a set up tables, mix Gatorade, pour liquid into cups, etc. Please arrive anytime between 5:45 and 6:40,

The marathon starts at 7:00 am. It’s exciting to see the fastest runners appear 10-15 minutes later, followed by up to 1200 participants. You’ll see a great variety of runners and running styles.

The water stop is at the intersection of route 940 and Short Lane. If you want to use GPS, the easiest way may be to search for Pocono Mountain Regional Police (2454 Route 940, Pocono Summit). The water stop is 0.8 miles west of the police station.

It’s also:

2.2 miles west of interstate 380 and route 940 interchange.
0.8 miles east of Van Gilder’s Jubilee Restaurant

If you prefer coordinates, they are: North 41 degrees 06.703′, West 75 degrees 26.387′.

If you would like to volunteer, or you have any questions, please call me at (570)872-6473 or email tburbage@ptd.net. It’s okay to just show up, but I’d like to have an approximate head count.

Thank you,
Tom Burbage
