The view from my porch.

I am so PROUD of this running community! We have so many wonderful people dedicated to making the RUN FOR THE RED MARATHON happen. It would be easy for many to think and say how lucky we are to have our own home town marathon! But the truth is luck has little to do with this event happening. This event happens because we have some dedicated wonderful people with a vision and commitment to holding a first class event! The commitment goes far beyond just raising money, included is the pride in shared community service!
Training for a marathon is generally 16 to 18 weeks of hard work. Holding a marathon is a year round continuous effort. The Red Cross and race management meet and work all throughout the year. When we are finished running we get to go home and celebrate and lick our wounds. Race management stays and cleans up behind us and begins preparation for the next year.

Over the years I have run the full marathon course as a self-supported training run. Running it on race day with full support of race management sure is a heavenly experience compared to doing it alone! On race day we runners shine! We run our best and we are adored and thanked for our efforts. But I feel I MUST point out that without the efforts of race management and all the MARVELOUS VOLUNTEERS we wouldn’t get this opportunity! PLEASE THANK ALL VOLUNTEERS!

I’ll see y’all Sunday! Marathon, Half Marathon, or 5K, LET’S DO THIS!

Good luck to those training and running elsewhere this weekend!
