LONG POND – My first day at Pocono Raceway is just about over. I just need to the rain to stop so I can paddle my way over my car, which I hope has grown wings since I left it five hours ago.
The ARCA race, much like the June event, turned out to be quite entertaining with Justin Allgaier holding off Scott Speed for the victory. Better yet, Allgaier’s team is owned by his father Mike and doesn’t have a primary sponsor compared to Speed’s Team Red Bull with the energy drink (I guess you could call it that) funding the way.
Tomorrow has an interesting look. It’s supposed to be a nice day and not nearly as hot as June’s Pocono 500. That means my sweat towel won’t be overworked, but the sunny skies could prove challenging to my freshly shaven head. I guess that’s what sunscreen is for. I have a radio interview with a sports show in Buffalo scheduled for 10:15 a.m. so that should be fun. As far as the race, Jimmie Johnson is my pick. I’ve seen races here in late July and early August dominated by the pole-sitter who also happened to be the class of the field in practice. We shall see.
