Unique and personal…

Most couples today are looking for ways to make their wedding day special, unique and a true reflection of who they are. It’s only natural. As a celebrant I create very personal ceremonies, and what better way to start your wedding and your married life than with a ceremony that is personal, and a true celebration of who you are?

The right ideas aren’t necessarily the latest trends, but something that honestly reflects your own vision. You can look many places, to your background, interests or heritage, to find inspiration. Express yourself through food, music and entertainment,  and even your attire.  Here are a few cool ideas I’ve recently come across, maybe one of them will feel right for you. Guest book? Why not a guest plate? Signature plates are plates that your guests sign and become a functional keepsake. A popular variation on this is to sign a mat for a photograph. I think this signature plate looks cool.

Or how about a wish tree? This is a Dutch wedding custom where guests are given a piece of paper, either shaped like a leaf or made of card stock. The guests write their wishes to the bride and groom and then hang it on the tree. You could also do it outdoors using a real tree!

Here’s something I always imaged: designating each table with an image, instead of a number. Love music? Have a Classical table, a Rock & Roll table, and Country and Western table. Or have the Mozart table, the Springsteen table. Use actors, movies, literary figures, authors, anything goes! It’s all about making it personal.

I'd want to be seated at the movie table!

Love chocolate? Have a chocolate table, or ‘station,’ and give chocolate favors and be sure to use the color chocolate.

Vintage comes and goes, and its back. Vintage dresses, retro looks, veils, and using the real thing, actual vintage clothing is very ‘green’ because it is a way to re-use, rather than discard.

No matter what your budget or how you choose to celebrate, make it fit your own style.  Being true to yourself will be the best investment you can make.
