Wedding Trends for the Coming Year

I’m so happy to read, here or there, that wedding trends are shifting towards more socially responsible and understated weddings.

In keeping with that, the concept of ‘green weddings’ continues to gain traction. This means choosing locally grown flowers, recycled paper, or going paperless for invitations, and repurposing old items to become centerpieces has become popular. You can take this to many levels, choosing rings that were created from safely mined gold and diamonds.  Vintage ties in beautifully with this, because a vintage gown is by definition, recycled.

What a gorgeous vintage gown.

I’m also happy to see the end of the strapless gown. They are often not all that flattering, and I really don’t like seeing bride’s tugging on their dress to pull it up. Coming into fashion are long sleeves, cap sleeves and illusion necklines.

Engagement photo shoots are becoming more popular and it’s a great way to check out your photographer before the big day.

There are always popular color trends, purple was big two years ago, and I saw a lot of blue, teal, and orange this year. I’m hearing that white will be popular in the coming year- not only for the bride, but everyone and every thing! I can just picture that and it feels very elegant. Because natural themed weddings are growing in popularity, also expect to see earthy palettes for dresses and decor.

This, too, is vintage.

And although there’s nothing new in DIY, couples will continue to create personal touches, not just as a money-saving technique, but to show their personalities.

A classic vintage look.

The most important thing to remember is that it’s YOUR wedding, and it is a reflection of your style, taste and love. With your celebration you honor yourselves and all who loved you and helped you on your journey. So don’t forget to take your family and friends into consideration when making plans. This will make your day a big success.
