Trends to Watch in 2013

Happy New Year! Its almost here, a brand new year, and looking forward to 2013 there are some wedding trends worth watching. One new idea that really caught my interest is ‘the lounge’ or ‘reception lounge.’ The concept is to create an area away from the dance floor where guests can sit, eat or drink, and talk without competing with the DJ or band.

I love this for so many reasons. It’s cozy and comfy and gives choices to your guests. Not everyone wants to spend the night on the dance floor (I know I can’t anymore!)

Your wedding reception takes on a whole new feel if you set up a lounge. You can even have a different style of music or entertainment there, although I suggest keeping it music free and using it to provide a quieter spot for people to hang out and bond.

Many venues have an area that can be used or adapted, or they have furniture they can move into your reception room. Talk to your coordinator about setting up an area for you.  A hotel will most likely already have sofas and chairs that could be moved into your reception and set up in a corner. With the lounge you can better express a theme or just play out your style to the max! An outdoor lounge, weather permitting, is extremely fabulous!

Another trend that has caught my eye is the idea of the ‘goodnight station.’ This simply means bringing out beverages and foods at the end of the night, especially coffees and warm drinks in fall or winter, or lemonade, juice and fruit punch in spring or summer. It’s really a desert station, but served after the party.  Add ice cream, cake, pie or donuts. Set up a table full of goodies to send your gusts home with a little extra touch at the end of the evening.

Other trends for 2013 that are being predicted include the color mint, 1920’s styling, bird themes and braided hairstyles. But remember, what matters most is creating a sincere wedding that honestly reflects who you are. Don’t forget that the heart of the wedding, your ceremony, says more about your marriage than any trend ever could.

Birds and bird houses will be popular this year.
