Ideas to make your wedding special

Everyone wants their wedding to be unique, special and memorable. Sometimes its just one little thing that makes it all happen! It’s not just in the details that pertain to the bride – her dress, her flowers, but the experience of the guests that will make all the difference. Here are a few of my very favorite bits of magic I’ve seen in action and felt were really worth the effort.

Fireworks– It might sound expensive, but you can have just a few. It’s cool to have them go off when it’s time for the groom to kiss the bride…provided that the ceremony is outdoors, of course.  Or have a full fireworks show after dinner.  In some states you can buy some pretty impressive fireworks yourself. Hire someone to be in charge, though, and be sure you have permission at your venue and plenty of safety planning in place. This is a spectacular way to add magic to the wedding.

Ice Cream – Have an ice cream bar where folks can make their own cones and sundaes! This is sure to please! I also love those popular candy bars!

Color Themed Wedding – have everyone wear only black or white, or any one specific color, for a dazzling effect. Do up the decorations accordingly, of course! Bathe the room in color.

Other Themes – Everything falls into place when you have a theme that truly works for you. From a rock and roll wedding to a Halloween wedding, anything goes, as long as it goes well with who you are! Create a unique experience for everyone with your theme.  Have your wedding at a brewpub or vineyard! Remember sometimes it’s not done, til it’s overdone!

Evening Weddings – Start the ceremony at dusk and have an outdoor summer wedding complete with lots of candles and lights. String tons of small twinkling lights everywhere and use those flameless candles.

Games and Competitions – Have organized games or competitions for your guests instead of, or along with the usual music and dancing. For outdoor weddings there’s horseshoes, quoits, tag, treasure hunts, or badminton, just to name a few. For indoors, how about pool, karaoke, trivia, or even a battle of the sexes? Consider hiring a pro to run the games. Don’t make it take over the entire evening, but give it a portion of your evening.

And don’t forget about us Celebrants! Having a celebrant perform your ceremony will ensure it will be unique, honest and meaningful. A celebrant tells your story and honestly reflects who you are and what it all means to you, your family and friends. What could be more memorable than a very personal wedding ceremony?
